The DHS 08X is truly a “must-have” chopper blade in the world of defensive table tennis. Featuring a 5-ply wood + 2-ply fancy carbon felt construction with a classic Limba top ply and Ayous medial ply, it enhances feel while improving dwell time. The oversized head provides a larger sweet spot for greater defensive stability. The fancy carbon felt is positioned on both sides of the core, creating a core-protecting structure – allowing effortless control on chopping while delivering speed and power on counterattacks. With a thickness of 5.9mm, it offers a deep bottoming-out feel without vibration or numbness.

Forehand inverted rubber looping capability is outstanding – transparent feel, excellent borrowing of power, longer arc, and more power. On backhand chopping, the composite carbon material makes it easier to achieve the required “force discharge.” National team players Hu Dongshen, Wang Chence, Ma Te, and Liu Fei all use blades from this series. As the 40+ plastic ball era presents new challenges for choppers, the 08X is the answer – “defend with stability, attack with power.” Whether you’re a stable chopper looking to improve your offense or an aggressive chopper seeking a different feel, the 08X is your unavoidable choice.

I‘ve been chopping for three years and have used Butterfly Joo Se Hyuk and Diode. The 08X delivers exactly what it promises – defense with stability, attack with power. The counterattack from a chop is exceptionally crisp – the carbon fiber support gives backhand punch blocks real penetration, and forehand loops produce quality shots. Compared to Joo Se Hyuk, the 08X is bouncier and faster; chopping stability is slightly lower, but the counterattack ceiling is much higher. At less than half the price of Butterfly, this is incredible value.

I used to play with Donic V3 – extremely stable, but too soft on offense. Against advanced players, I could only passively defend. After switching to the 08X, my first feeling was – I can win now! Backhand long pips chopping has slightly faster throw-off; it takes a few days to adjust, but once you do, the chops create serious pressure – opponents struggle to sustain loops. Forehand attacks have a distinct trampoline feel when you power up, taking shot quality to the next level. Highly recommended for choppers hitting a plateau who want to improve their offensive game. The 08X is truly a blade no chopper can avoid.

I used this blade as a modern defender, with long pips on the backhand and various forehand inverted rubbers. My conclusion is that the blade is very good for players that attack more and chop less. The blade is fast for chopping, and it has control, but the ball jumps quickly from the pips – you need a quick hand for serious chopping. The good news is that the forehand attack is very effective. I paired the blade best with Dignics 09c and DHS H3-50 and it works great. Overall, a beautifully designed blade with its own unique personality – a pleasure to use.

Forehand paired with NEO provincial Hurricane 3 39°, backhand with Hurricane 8-80 37° – double inverted chopper setup. The 08X exceeded expectations – chopping from distance produces a low flat arc with heavy spin; dwell time isn’t as long as all-wood chopper blades, but the shot quality is more deceptive, causing opponents to misread the ball. At close-range defense, the oversized head delivers a clear sweet spot advantage with high fault tolerance. Overall, the 08X has pushed chopper blades forward in the 40+ era – it would be a shame not to try it.
